Artist Statement

The simple beauty of watercolor paintings has always intrigued me and I’ve learned to exploit the movement and blending of color on paper to create soft richly colored scenes. I am inspired by the boundless colors and shapes seen on a simple walk in the woods or along the ocean shore. Capturing on paper a glimpse of these or any other scenes of creation is my greatest challenge and most satisfying reward. Having grown up in New England, the blaze of colors that cover the countryside in autumn and the beauty of the blue-green ocean along the rugged coast are etched in my mind. Those colors are found in many of my works and in the end, I hope the paintings bring a sense of peace and relaxation to the viewer. With no formal training in art, I gained a foundation in watercolor techniques taught by local artists Howard Stover and James Estey. More techniques were learned at a recent workshop with artist Frank Webb. I am past president of the Folsom Arts Association and a member of the El Dorado Hills Art Association. My work has been displayed at the Z Gallery in Folsom, and the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg. Currently showing as part of the Sutter Street Artists at the Procissi “ Wine Gallery” in Folsom.
