Jenny Briggs

I’ve been creating art for 16 years now, and it’s such a large part of my life I can’t imagine not painting! I live in Folsom with my husband. My studio IS my formal living room; it’s the first thing you see when you walk in my front door.

I started at Folsom Lake College with a drawing class with Professor Melanie Marchant. As soon as I started doing colored projects, for which I chose pastels, I knew I would paint for the rest of my life! I subsequently studied with Rick LeAndro in Jackson CA. Other than a few other classes, I’m largely self-taught, constantly reading, experimenting, and practicing. I’ve worked exclusively in oils for the last twelve years, and I absolutely love it!

I’ve shown in galleries in Jackson and Folsom, California, and Kennedy Gallery in Sacramento. I’m a member of Folsom Arts Association and Oil Painters of America. My paintings are in collections in Hawaii, Utah, Iowa, Colorado, Washington, California, and in Turkey! I went international in 2011!

I love painting in public, talking about my art or art in general, sharing what I know and learning from others. I get a thrill out of seeing people smile when they see my work; that makes ME smile. This year, I taught my first workshop and enjoyed it immensely! I will definitely continue to teach!

One would think that after 16 years, I would have a favorite subject or even a favorite style to paint. I love the challenge of something I haven’t painted yet, or a technique I haven’t tried. It does give me the advantage of being confident that I can paint any subject in styles ranging from realistic to impressionistic.

I usually have at least three paintings in progress – more if I’m working on custom pieces. Painting is my passion and I simply must do it! Being around other artists and art lovers is almost as fun as painting!
